1. Go to CONTROL PANEL in WIN95/98
A.Click "START", at the bottom left corner of the screen.
B. Move the mouse and point to the option for "SETTING"
C. A window will open to the right of this. Select the "CONTROL PANEL".
2. Check MODEM:
Double click on MODEM icon in the CONTROL PANEL window
A. If you do not have any modem listed here, click on ADD, and follow the steps on the screen and add the modem here.
B. If you have your modem listed here, highlight your modem
and click on PROPERTIES.
Make sure the maximum speed is set correctly. For 14.4K baud modem, we recommend to have
it set at 38400, and 57600 or 115200 if you have high speed I/O chip for 56K, 28.8K or
33.6 modem.
C. Click OK and then CLOSE to go back to CONTROL PANEL.
3. Double click on "NETWORK" icon. It will open up the Network window.
4. Verify the installed network component:
In the "NETWORK" window, look at the
"installed component" section. if you do not see any component
listed in the window, especially the following two,
dial-up adapter
TCP/IP
then go to step #5 or else go to step #6.
5. Add new network component - Dial-up Adapter, TCP/IP :
If you do not find the following two
components in step 4.

TCP/IP
A. Click the option "ADD".
B. At "Select Network Component Type" screen, click on "ADAPTER". and click ADD.
C. Another window will open now, and at the left side there will be a list of Manufacturers. Click on "MICROSOFT".
D. At the right side of the window you will see a list of Adapters Double click on the "Dial-Up" Adapter.
E. Click on "ADD" once again.
F. Look on the screen for "Protocols" and Double Click on this.
G. At the left side of the screen is a list of Manufacturers. Pick Microsoft and then to the right of the screen Double click on TCP/IP.
H. If you do not want the computer to save your login password, you may skip this step and go to #6
Click on ADD, and select CLIENT, click on ADD, pick Microsoft in the manufactures list, and double click on CLIENT FOR MICROSOFT NETWORK.
6. Remove unnecessary component.
If you are running inter-office networking, or other network, skip
this step and continue step #7.
These two components must exist or
else your dial-up network would not work.
Dial-up adapter
TCP/IP
If you are not running any local network, you may remove the
unnecessary components.
Remove Client for Microsoft Network (if you want the computer save your
login password so that you do not have to type it each time).
Remove Client for Netware Network , IPX/SPX compatible protocol
and NETBEUI. if you do not run Novel Network.
To remove any component, first high light the item by click one time on the left button of the mouse and click "REMOVE"
7. Network component Configuration:
If you want to save login password, Click on IDENTITY, enter your login name as your computer name, Put any name as your workgroup name or your local network workgroup name.
8. Click OK back to NETWORK windows and click OK again to close this screen.
The computer will ask you to reboot. Click "OK". At this point, the computer might ask you to insert the WIN95/98 CD or floppy disk if you did not install the proper driver during the initial WIN95/98 installation. Just follow the instruction on the screen and reboot the computer after loading the proper driver for each component. If you did selected Client for Microsoft Network, during the boot up process, the computer would ask you to enter password. You may enter a password or just press ENTER without any password.
9. Set up DIAL-UP NETWORKING
You will see an new icon on the Dial-Up Networking Folder called CIN.NET.
10. FINAL CONFIGURATION FOR DIAL-UP NETWORKING
A. Double click on the CIN.NET icon.
B. Enter your username (lower case).
C. Check save password if you want the computer to
remember your password.
D. Click "connect" to make connection to the net.
11. Create short cut for CIN.net Dialer.
Same as step #10, use right button, click on cin.net icon once, and use left button click
on Create Short Cut. It will create a short cut on the destop.
12. Once you get connected, you will see a "timer" showing the duration of connection. Minimize the window and you can go to other application like web browser or mail program.
13. Other useful information :
