Q.  What are the curfew hours for my child?

A.  Any minor child under the age of 17 must be home between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. Sunday through Thursday and between 12:00 A.M. and 6:00 AM Friday and Saturday.  This means any 16 year old child violating the curfew laws and is driving a motor vehicle in violation of curfew, does not have a valid drivers license.  There are exceptions to this law such as coming home from work or with an adult.  Contact  Kewanee Police Department at 309-853-1911 if you have any further questions.
 

Q.  I have been receiving harassing telephone calls, what can I do?

A.  Contact the GTE Nuisance Bureau, toll free at 1-800-257-2969.  They will fill out the necessary forms.  Bring this paperwork to the Kewanee Police Department and a police report will be completed.  GTE will place a trap on your phone and notify us if they are able to identify the suspect.  You will be required to keep a log of calls you receive, including time and date.
 

Q.  Are tinted windows legal?

A.  No person should drive a motor vehicle with any window application, reflective material, or non reflective material or tinted film upon the front windshield,  side wings, or side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.  A non reflective tinted film may be used along the uppermost portion of the windshield if such material does not extend more than 6 inches down from the top of the windshield.
 

Q.  When is music to loud in a vehicle?

A.  No driver of any motor vehicle within the state shall operate or permit operation of any sound amplification system which can be heard outside the vehicle from 75 or more feet.
 

Q.  If I lock my keys in the car, will the police unlock my vehicle?

A.  Kewanee Police will only unlock vehicles in an emergency situation.  (such as a small child locked inside)
 

Q.  Who must wear a seatbelt?

A.  Each driver and front passenger of a motor vehicle operated on a street or highway in this state shall wear a properly adjusted and fastened seat safety belt

Transporting a child under age 4.
When any person is transporting a child in this state under the age of 4 years in a motor vehicle, shall properly secure him   or her in a child restraint system. (Traffic Safety Experts suggest that the child be in the rear seat, with the child restraint facing the rear.)

Children 4 years of age or older, but under age 6 - Restraint system or seatbelt.
Every person, when transporting a child 4 years of age or older but under the age of 6, shall be responsible for securing that child in either a child restraint system or seat belt.

Children 6 years of age or older but under the age of 18 - Seat Belts.
Every person under the age of 18 years, when transporting a child 5 years of age or older but under the age of 18 years, shall be responsible for securing that child in a properly adjusted and fastened seat safety belt.
